Wow. Um. I don't really know what to say abou this book except to say that it helped to solidify my feeling that I'm just not a hard-core science fiction fan. I think the problem stems from the fact that almost everything outside the Trek universe is so pessimistic when it comes to the possible futures of humankind. I really don't want to read any more about how we've managed to either (a) blow each other up or (b) create some super-nasty virus that kills almost everyone. I think I'll stick to the fantasy genre from that section of the bookstore from now on.
